Through my years of coaching educational leaders at both the site and district level, one thing is clear: it’s lonely at the top.
All of us started as teachers, with friends and colleagues with whom we could share our thoughts, feelings, and questions on a daily basis. We were part of a tribe. While that is still true as a leader, as a decision-maker, we are often removed from those casual collegial relationships.
And time is an even bigger enemy!
With your busy schedule, you have very little time to devote to personal growth, right? But since this is absolutely critical to your success, you have to carve out time to learn, reflect, practice, and apply new strategies. In coaching leaders, this has become abundantly clear! Giving opportunities to leaders to reflect through coaching conversations is a true gift–for both the leader and for me as a coach.
